Athletics Learning Story

Athletics Learning Story On Thursday afternoon the year 5,6,7 and 8 participated in athletics at Corinna School. One of my favourite athletics sport is running because I want to lose weight and and I wanted to see much I can get better at running. I was very proud of myself because I kept running and running and I didn’t stop until I came 2nd in my group. Coming second is still very good and next year, I will try to do better. It is hard to to focus on running because sometimes I have butterflies in my tummy because i’m nervous. I have to ignore distractions from other people and not panic. I am good at thinking positively and encouraging myself to do my best. I was good at running because I watched other people running and saw how they use their arms and their legs. I was really good at keeping my body straight and tall, and my head up because if I don’t, then I won’t see where i’m going. I can Swing my arm 90 degree...

Titahi Bay Poem

Image
The Beach As the sun rises it shines into my eyes.  I am blinded. A smell of a delicious BBQ coming from my dad’s cooking.  It makes me ravenously hungry. As the waves crash into me the salt stings my eyes. Circling gulls trapped in cage. Hot summer day feeling a little bit burnt like hot brown toast.  Kids laughing out loud with joy. Fish swimming as fast as the flash. No more summer for this year. By: Leitoria Elaine Talataina

Poem Learning Story

Poem Learning Story In poetry we have been learning to paint the pictures in our reader's head and make them feel like there were there. I have been working on 3 poems : Cloud Poem Cold Weather Titahi Bay Poem Also my Blackout Poem I was working on figurative language and that is simile because I used “ like ” in my poem for example: So ravenous for food like hot toast. In my cloud poem I have also used personification to describe my cloud for an example: When I cry my rain falls down to feed the plants. By: Leitoria Elaine Talataina

Cold Weather

COLD WEATHER Cold weather outside Thunder blaze the night sky Can’t feel my fingers Body is numb Shivering as my teeth clatter Freezing into ice Snowflakes drifting from above Like its Christmas time No ice in the lake to skate in Looking for a place to sleep in So thirsty for coffee So ravenous for food like hot toast Still freezing I was working really hard on by trying really hard to make my sentence making sense so that my reader can visualize and also that they were there and they want to read more.' Maths Learning Story

Image
Maths Learning Story In Maths with Miss Ardelle we have been working on measuring angles accurately with a protractor. The problem was about the The Dab. The sports players did their dab and we had to work out the angle of their dab.   The angle of this person’s dab is 130 degrees. First I predicted that it was greater than 90 degrees because I used my bench marks. Then I used the other many benchmarks that goes to 180 degrees and found out that the dab didn’t go that far as 180 and it only went up to 130 degrees. When I used the protractor, I had to match up the cross on the protractor where the two lines intersect and make sure that the line with 0 and 180 is along a base line My next step is to use the Success Criteria to get some ideas because  you might need some help or you're stuck. Art Learning Story

Image
Art Learning Story Purpose: To create bold images that represent our ancestors and what they are remembered for? My ancestor is my grandpa because he loves his family and he loves his wife, kids and brothers and sisters. I was working on using big bold pictures, so you can see each image clearly. I used big bold images that represent my ancestor and that is a flag because my grandpa is Samoan and the cross represents my grandpa’s loves to go to church. I also used an image of a fale so show where he lives. I am good at using bright colors so that my ancestor art looks even brighter. I used contrasting colours, orange and green so my ancestor stands out. I need to work on adding some more cultural patterns onto my art like a border. By: Leitoria Elaine Talataina

Kara Haka Learning Story

Image
Kapa Haka Learning Story I could hear the sound of the children’s singing coming out through the door, it was as loud as an elephant stomping its feet. As I took my first step inside the hall, if felt like entering a new world of Kapa Haka. When I first started, I could hardly do anything, but from all the support from the tutors and students, I started to gain more confidence and improve in my actions, singing and facial expressions. It’s important that we are respectful to the tutors, so we are able to hear the tune of the song and do what we are meant to be doing (instructions). It is important that we respect the songs that our tutors have given to us, because it is like our taonga. My next steps are to help other new boys and girls with their actions so that when they grow up like us they will teach others the actions to. Kapa haka was a great...

Technology Learning Story

Image
Technology Learning Story The first time I started Technology, I thought that it will find it hard for me because there might be dangerous stuff in the rooms and I wouldn’t know what to do. The group that I was in, is Hard Materials with Mr Pillar. He told us about the rules and how the tools work. Here  are the most important rules about hard materials: Listen carefully to all the instructions No running around Be careful with the tools and know how to use them No tapping on the tables Mr Piller is a great hard materials teacher because he always helps us when we are stuck on something hard or something dangerous. The first thing we build was our carving we used this tool called a chisel and a mallet it looks kind of dangerous for us because of the sharp V at the front and the mallet when you try and bang bang it might hurts your fingers. Me and J.D were very ...

Maths learning Story

My reflection about learning maths in a team I am good at explaining maths problem so that people know what we are explaining and how we worked out our problem.  I am able to sit in a circle to share my ideas and listen to other people.  Some people will ask me to explain the problem and I will try and explain it to them.  I've got better at listening while other speak.  I've also got better at repeating what others said to help people understand the problem. I still need to work on being loud and clear because people might not hear you. When I work in a group I feel like people taking away my soul because I got better at maths.
